Project Name

VincentCare Community Housing Footscray

background

Wightman Street in Footscray was the site of St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria’s (VincentCare Community Housing) first major community housing project, delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build.

The development delivered 92 new homes, including 28 one-bedroom, 58 two-bedroom, and six three-bedroom apartments, together with ground floor office space and parking for approximately 60 vehicles. Designed to meet contemporary standards, the project achieved a 7-star energy rating and provided safe, secure and affordable housing for individuals and families on the Victorian Housing Register. All apartments were retained by VCCH and leased to tenants at affordable rents, supporting people previously living in unaffordable rentals, unsuitable accommodation, or experiencing homelessness.

Scope of Service

Gallagher Jeffs was responsible for the appointment, management and coordination of all consultants, ensuring documentation was prepared in a format suitable for novation under a D&C contract. Our role included managing the remaining design development, preparing the tender package, procuring the head contractor, and overseeing detailed design coordination and value management.

We also coordinated the attainment of permits and authority approvals and administered the D&C contract through to delivery, ensuring programme, quality and compliance objectives were met.
