background
Wightman Street in Footscray was the site of St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria’s (VincentCare Community Housing) first major community housing project, delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build.
The development delivered 92 new homes, including 28 one-bedroom, 58 two-bedroom, and six three-bedroom apartments, together with ground floor office space and parking for approximately 60 vehicles. Designed to meet contemporary standards, the project achieved a 7-star energy rating and provided safe, secure and affordable housing for individuals and families on the Victorian Housing Register. All apartments were retained by VCCH and leased to tenants at affordable rents, supporting people previously living in unaffordable rentals, unsuitable accommodation, or experiencing homelessness.
