Project Name

Woolworths SIW DC

Project background

Woolworths developed this purpose built facility for one of their subsidiaries, Statewide Independent Wholesalers (SIW) and in doing so engaged in a pre-construction sale of the facility to Charter Hall, to be settled on completion.

The distribution centre will accommodate three of SIW’s existing facilities once they are relocated from Launceston, Hobart and Northwest Tasmania. A portion of the facility will also be sublet to one of SIW’s affiliates, Tasmanian Independent Retailers.

Scope of services

Project management

Gallagher Jeffs was engaged in 2009 as to oversee the end to end delivery of the project from design to commissioning.

Key project stakeholders were spread across several states, posing a significant challenge to the project team. We addressed this challenge by closely engaging with the stakeholders to ensure their objectives were achieved.

The elements of the project can be broken down as follows:

  • Ambient DC Areas = 45,000 m2
  • Temperature Controlled DC Areas = 6,000m2
  • Office and Amenity Areas = 2,500m2
  • Special Goods Store
  • Aerosol Store
  • Full Workshop Facilities
  • Secure Storage
  • Confectionary Store
  • Hardstand, Car Parking and Loading Docks

Construction began in 2010 and practical completion was achieved ahead of program in February 2012. Early handover of the project meant that SIW were able to meet critical receipt and dispatch timelines for their retail chains.
